1. What is a YeBoneer?

A YeBoneer is a young person on the YearBeyond programme who volunteers to serve their communities while building their skills.

2. What does YearBeyond offer?

YearBeyond has three core components: Serve, Enable, and Connect. Find out more about these components here. Find out about YearBeyond’s different programmes here.

3. Does YearBeyond pay a salary?

YearBeyond is an opportunity to gain experience and build skills. The Programme is not a job opportunity and does not pay a salary. YeBoneers receive an allowance to cover costs for the days of service they provide.

4. What is the allowance for?

The allowance YeBoneers receive for the days of service they provide is a contribution towards the cost of their travel and lunch and to ensure that they have a working cell phone and data.

5. Can I apply for YearBeyond if I don’t have Matric?

Yes, but only for YearBeyond programmes that do not require Matric. Check out the individual programmes here to find out if you need a Matric certificate to apply for them.

6. Can I apply for YearBeyond if I am 17 years old?

You can only apply for YearBeyond if you are 18 years or older.

7. Can I apply for YearBeyond if I am 26 or older?

You can only apply for YearBeyond if you are between 18 and 25 years old.

8. Can I apply for YearBeyond if I don’t live in the Western Cape?

YearBeyond’s biggest footprint is in the Western Cape. However, YearBeyond has programmes across South Africa. While you can apply if you don’t currently live in the area where a programme is implemented, you can only be selected if you relocate to the area where that programme is implemented.

9. When do applications open?

Keep an eye on YearBeyond’s website and social media platforms for information about when applications open. Recruitment usually opens between January and March each year.

10. What is the application process?

The application process has five steps:

Step 1: Create a profile on SAYouth.mobi. Make sure that you complete your profile as fully and accurately as possible.

Step 2: Apply for the YearBeyond programme you are interested in through SAYouth.mobi.

Step 3: The YearBeyond Head Office will review your application to check if you meet the minimum requirements for the programme.

Step 4: If you are shortlisted, you will receive a verification call and be given information about your interview.

Step 5: You will be interviewed. If you are successful in your interview, you will be offered a place on the programme.

11. What is the next step if I am offered a place on a YearBeyond programme?

If you are offered a place on a YearBeyond programme, you must attend an orientation week and technical training.
